AI Copilot

Ask questions about your spending in plain language

What Is AI Copilot?

Yomio Copilot is an AI-powered financial assistant built directly into the app. Instead of reading charts, you can ask questions in plain language — "How much did I spend on dining last month?", "Which merchant do I spend the most at?", or "Am I on track with my budget?" — and Copilot answers using your actual purchase data.

  • Natural language queries — no formulas or filters needed
  • Context-aware — Copilot sees only the purchases you explicitly share with it
  • Time-period scoping — ask about this week, this month, last month, last year, or any custom date range
  • Filter by merchant or payment method before starting a chat
  • Multiple conversations — start new chats and revisit previous ones at any time
  • Quick suggestions — preset questions to help you get started
  • Expense-specific mode — open from a purchase detail to ask about that specific expense

📝Premium Feature

AI Copilot is available exclusively on the Premium plan. Free users can open the Copilot tab and type a message, but a paywall appears when they try to send it. Upgrade to Premium to unlock unlimited conversations.

Accessing Copilot

Copilot is available from two places in the app.

Copilot tab

Tap the Copilot icon in the bottom navigation bar to open the full Copilot screen with context selection, chat, and history.

Floating button

A floating Copilot button appears on the Home screen. Tap it for quick access without leaving your purchase list.

From expense detail

Tap the "Ask Yopilot" button on any expense detail screen to start a chat pre-loaded with that expense's context.

Starting a Chat

You can optionally set a context — the set of purchases Copilot will use to answer your questions. Or simply start typing to use all your data.

1

Open Copilot

Tap the Copilot tab or the floating button on the Home screen
2

Type your question

Start typing in the chat input, or tap one of the quick suggestion chips to send a pre-written prompt
3

Set context (optional)

Tap the filter button to open the context selector. Choose a time period: This Week, This Month, Last Month, Last Year, or Custom (any start and end date)
4

Apply optional filters

Narrow context by merchant or payment method — useful for focused questions like "How much did I spend at Walmart?"
5

Send your message

Tap Send. Copilot answers using your purchase data within the selected context.

Smaller Context = Faster, More Accurate Answers

If you apply a category or merchant filter, Copilot works with a smaller, more focused dataset and tends to give more precise answers than when all purchases are included.

Using the Chat Interface

The chat interface works like a messaging app. Your messages appear on the right; Copilot's responses appear on the left.

  • Type any question about your spending and tap Send
  • Quick suggestions appear below the input — tap any suggestion to send it instantly
  • Copilot shows a thinking indicator while processing your question
  • Long-press any message to copy the text or report an issue with the response
  • The context indicator at the top of the screen shows which time period and filters are active
  • Tap Change Context in the action bar to update the context mid-conversation

Example Questions to Try

"What are my top 3 spending categories this month?", "How does my dining spend compare to last month?", "Which day of the week do I spend the most?", "What's my average grocery receipt total?"

Conversation History

All your Copilot conversations are saved automatically so you can continue where you left off or review past insights.

1

Open Copilot

Tap the Copilot tab in the bottom navigation bar
2

Tap View History

Tap the History button on the empty state or in the action bar
3

Browse conversations

Conversations are grouped by date. Each shows a preview of the first message and the context used.
4

Continue a conversation

Tap any conversation to reopen it and send more messages
5

Delete a conversation

Swipe left on a conversation and tap Delete, or open it and use the menu

💡Search and Sort

Use the search bar at the top of the history screen to find a specific conversation. Sort by Most Recent or Oldest using the sort button.

Changing Context Mid-Conversation

You can update the context at any point during a conversation — for example, to switch from This Month to Last Month or to add a category filter.

1

Tap Change Context

In the action bar at the bottom of the chat, tap Change Context
2

Update settings

The context selector opens pre-filled with your current settings. Change the time period or filters.
3

Tap Start Chat

Copilot applies the new context and adds a system message confirming the change. New questions in the thread use the updated context.

Tips for Better Answers

  • Be specific: "How much did I spend at Starbucks in March?" gives a better answer than "How much did I spend?"
  • Use filters: if you want answers about a single category or merchant, apply the filter in the context selector before starting the chat
  • Ask follow-up questions: Copilot maintains conversation context, so you can ask "What about last month?" after an initial question
  • Check the context summary: if the purchase count shown is much lower than expected, your date range or filters may be too narrow
  • New chat for new topics: start a fresh conversation when switching to a completely different question topic to keep history organised
